Throughout October, we celebrated Black History Month (BHM) by hosting an event at our London office, celebrating your BHM star nominations via social media, running a quiz and sharing blogs of black pharmacists' lived experiences. Catch up with our highlights from the month:
Saluting Our Sisters event
We came together in our London office to celebrate, educate and commemorate contributions by Black pharmacy professionals in Pharmacy.
Amandeep Doll, Head of Engagement and Professional Belonging at RPS, said: “This year’s Black History Month, with its theme 'Saluting our Sisters,' spotlights the vital contributions of black women in pharmacy. It's a chance to honour their often overlooked achievements, while acknowledging and overcoming the challenges they face to inspire and empower future generations of pharmacy team members.
“Reflecting on the recent BHM event the RPS co-hosted with APTUK, BPSA, Female Pharmacy Leaders Network, Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians of Colour and UK Black Pharmacists Association, the positive atmosphere created a space where black pharmacy professionals felt a sense of belonging. Let's ensure they continue to be seen and celebrated, fostering a supportive community of colleagues.”
Black History Month star nominations
We asked you to nominate your BHM star nomination, celebrating black pharmacy professionals’ contributions to the profession. Throughout the month we’ve been sharing these on our social media channels via #SalutingOurSisters and #RPSIandD. Have a look through our Twitter feed or view all the nominations here.
Accent bias in the pharmacy profession
“Accent bias is a subtle but significant form of discrimination that affects both individuals and the pharmacy workforce. To harness the full potential of their diverse talent pool, workplaces must raise awareness, offer support, and promote an inclusive culture”, says Marvin Munzu, Co-founder and Managing Director of Preregshortcuts Ltd, on how accent bias can affect your career.
Also on social media, we tested your knowledge with our annual BHM quiz on Twitter and Instagram. Missed the results? Check them out on our Twitter.
