World Pharmacists Day was marked in the Welsh Senedd this week as Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee made a short statement to celebrate the work of pharmacists in Wales.

Highlighting the expert skills of pharmacists, Russell George MS asked his colleagues to recognise the crucial role of pharmacists across all health sectors in supporting patients get the best and safest use from their medicines. He also stressed the importance of pharmacists being supported by the Welsh Government and the Senedd so that their skills are fully utilised now, and in the years to come.

Commenting on the statement, RPS Director for Wales, Elen Jones said:

“We’re very grateful to Russell for securing the opportunity to celebrate world pharmacist day on the floor of the Senedd. He has been a long standing supporter of pharmacists, in particular making the most of pharmacists’ skills as prescribers.

“We were pleased to work with Russell on this statement, that not only celebrates pharmacists, but also challenges those in power to consider what support pharmacists require and how our expertise can be fully utilised. These are two points that are at the heart of our work with the Senedd.”
