Ceri Phillips, Antimicrobial Pharmacy Expert Advisory Group

Antimicrobial Expert Advisory Group

In her role as Consultant Pharmacist for Antimicrobials, Ceri leads a team of pharmacists and a technician across primary and secondary care in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB), one of the largest NHS organisations in Wales. Ceri represents ABUHB on the Antimicrobial Resistance Delivery Board for Wales, and is an Honorary Lecturer at Cardiff University, where she developed a dedicated postgraduate antimicrobial stewardship module. She is also an independent prescriber, undertaking antimicrobial ward rounds and specialising in the management of C. difficile infection.

Ceri currently chairs the Welsh Antimicrobial Pharmacy Group, involving of all the antimicrobial pharmacists, technicians and other relevant stakeholders within Wales, including Public Health Wales. The group shares experience across Health Boards and takes a collaborative approach to antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) across Wales, progressing projects nationally where possible. The group have also recently partnered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Malawi and are currently undertaking a Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) project together.

Working in a large commissioner-provider organisation encompassing all settings, she brings hands on experience of the need for a holistic approach to AMS, including interfaces of care, as well as experience of strategic delivery at organisational level and beyond. Ceri intends to share her knowledge of AMS activity and strategy in Wales to inform RPS workstreams and support development of four nation AMS solutions. Only by working together and engaging everyone, including members of the public, will we tackle the threat of antimicrobial resistance.
