Kirsteen Hill, Antimicrobial Pharmacy Expert Advisory Group

Antimicrobial Expert Advisory Group

Kirsteen is an Antimicrobial and HIV Pharmacist working in NHS Tayside, based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland.  She has been an Infectious Diseases pharmacist for nearly 25 years and antimicrobial stewardship has always been key to her role, even before this terminology was routinely used!

Kirsteen has always loved learning from others and enjoys collaborating and sharing ideas with pharmacists and other health professionals.  She was a founding member of the Association of Scottish Antimicrobial Pharmacists 15 years ago and is very proud of how the group has developed and supported new members as the specialty has grown.  Kirsteen is a current Co-chair of the group and they work closely with the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group which is a multi professional group co-ordinating the national framework for antimicrobial stewardship across Scotland.

She also has a dual role as an HIV pharmacist which is the field she focussed on for her supplementary prescribing role initially before becoming an independent prescriber, and developing pharmacist HIV clinics. Working within an MDT she finds particularly rewarding and this role has extended to other infections including TB, and complex respiratory infections focussing on fungal and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infection management. More recently Kirsteen has been an integral member of the team delivering COVID-19 therapeutics for inpatients and outpatients across Tayside.

Kirsteen enjoys working with the RPS Antimicrobial Expert Advisory Group.  Antimicrobial stewardship is the shared responsibility of all health care professionals and pharmacy teams are essential to delivering stewardship work and inspiring others to engage in stewardship activities for all antimicrobials, including antifungals and antivirals!
