We have been engaging with politicians and other stakeholders to raise awareness of the vital role pharmacists play in delivering public health advice and care to people. Previous fringe meetings at the party political conferences have carried a public health theme, in addition to discussions at the All-Party Pharmacy Group.
Smoking is a highly addictive and is responsible for the deaths of about half of all regular smokers. Each and every healthcare professionals have a role in helping the continuing decline of smoking rates in the UK population, but most of all pharmacists are ideally placed to deliver this service and support patients trying to quit. Pharmacies are highly accessible, and are able to offer a range of NRTs and professional advice to help the patient quit. The RPS fully supports public health measures and commissioned services that aid in smoking cessation in the population.
